Open Today's Free NRFI Picks →How we rank NRFI games
Every game gets a composite NRFI score built from four inputs: (1) the starting pitcher's career first-inning scoring rate, (2) the team's first-inning scoring rate against that pitcher type, (3) season first-inning run totals for both clubs, and (4) recent trend weighting for the last 30 days.
A top NRFI pick means both pitchers rank in the top third for first-inning scorelessness AND the opposing lineups rank in the bottom third for first-inning scoring — a full stack of signals pointing the same way.
Every pick is free. No premium tier, no hidden picks, no "unlock for $X/month." The methodology is documented on the FAQ page.
NRFI Betting FAQ
What does NRFI mean in MLB betting?
NRFI stands for "No Runs First Inning." It is a baseball prop bet that resolves YES if neither team scores in the first inning of the game, and NO (also called YRFI — Yes Runs First Inning) if any run crosses the plate in the first.
How do you pick NRFI games?
We rate each NRFI game by combining both starting pitchers' career first-inning scoring rates, each team's season first-inning scoring rate, lineup strength versus the specific pitcher, and recent trend data. Only games with strong pitcher + lineup alignment rank as top NRFI plays.
Why is the first inning good for betting?
First-inning results are more predictable than full-game outcomes because only the top of the lineup bats and the starting pitcher is fresh. A strong pitcher facing a bottom-heavy lineup is a high-confidence NRFI setup.
Are your NRFI picks free?
Yes — all NRFI picks on HitBuddy are completely free. No paywall, no subscription, no premium tier.
How often do NRFI picks update?
NRFI picks refresh daily as probable pitchers are confirmed and lineups post. We pull first-inning splits from MLB Stats API and regenerate every 3 hours.
